Antarctica 🤩 my current post-doc deals with krill and marine mammals around the South Orkney Islands and I am so lucky to travel down there once a year for a month long survey. During this years survey we encountered a record number of fin whales, together with data from the last 10y we see a return of the large fin whale aggregations of old :) we are also using echosounders to map the krill distribution and study the feeding areas of penguins and marine mammals together with tags and drones. Dont be fooled by the sunny pictures thou, mostly the weather and waves are rough down there and we spent more time staring at our laptops and instruments that animals 😆
